We’d like to thank everyone who participated in last night’s tele-town hall. Thousands of concerned Americans heard from NAACP leaders on how they can help push back against the current attack on civil rights and the right to vote. NAACP Leadership: President Derrick Johnson, National Youth and College Director Tiffany D. Loftin, National Political Director Sheila E. Isong, Aubrey Hooper, NAACP Dallas Branch President & Assistant Secretary National Board of Directors Special Guest: Chikesia Clemons
“Since Donald Trump ascended to the presidency on a platform of division, people of color across America have been dealing with levels of blatant hate and racism not seen in decades,” said NAACP President Derrick Johnson. “His blatant dog-whistle politics has served as inspiration for others to express their own racism and bias, and #LivingWhileBlack has not been this dangerous since the Jim Crow era. This all needs to end—and on November 6, we all have a chance to make it stop and put our country back on the path toward equality. The importance of our vote and participation cannot be overstated. We can’t exercise our right to vote without people in power trying to put up barriers to our access to the ballot box. This is a time for real people to have real conversations on the status of this country, and mobilize to reclaim our communities. Our lives depend on it.”
