On December 22, 2017, President Trump signed very harmful and dangerous bill into law. Rather than use the U.S. tax code to address income inequality issues and centuries of bias against low-and middle-income Americans, including Americans of color, this new law exacerbates the problems. By increasing the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years the result will be automatic cuts in Social Security, Food Stamps, and other necessary “Safety Net” domestic programs. The new law also ends the Individual Mandate, a central tenant of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. “Obamacare”). The result will be an estimated 13 million fewer people having health care within a decade.
