PART OF NATIONAL ELECTION DAY OUTREACH IN KEY STATES

WHO:  NAACP National President and CEO Derrick Johnson will join a delegation of community canvassers to knock on doors and turn out voters in Stockbridge, Georgia – a community just south of the Atlanta metro area between 4:00pm and 5:00pm

WHAT:  The NAACP has been on the ground conducting a GOTV program across the nation with a special focus on the states of Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Our goal is to increase turnout of African American voters who do not typically vote during the midterm election. Considering how tightly contested many races are across the various states in this election cycle it is essential we reach as many voters as possible and encourage them to exercise their power.

WHERE:  Canvass Launch: Cascade Family Skating, 3335 M.L.K. Jr. Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30331

ADDITIONAL FEATURED NAACP GOTV OPERATIONS AROUND THE NATION – OHIO & FLORIDA

FLORIDA

With two highly contested seats at the top of the ticket one for governor and the other for United States Senate and Amendment 4 which directly impacts marginalized communities who have had their rights taken away due to past convictions, the NAACP made it a priority to place 140 boots on the ground to canvass and phone bank black low propensity voters. We have seen a direct impact in our work where voters who were contacted by members of the NAACP they have turned out at a rate of 30% and individuals who have not been contacted by the NAACP have turned out at a rate of 25%.

Florida has already seen a total of more than 5 million votes cast leading into Election Day this year dwarfing the 3.2 million in 2014. That 2018 total is closer to the 6.6 million early and VBM votes cast in 2016 than it is to the 2014 total. In fact, the total numbers of VBMs returned in 2018 are currently at 94% of where they were at this point in 2016. Starting at 12:00pm-7:00pm – GOTV Canvassing will take place.

OHIO

The NAACP Turn Out Ohio team is on the front end of history in the making. Through the mobilization of people in the very communities facing the hardest times we have worked to engage those least likely to connect in midterm cycles. The effort will have ripples across the country.

Our canvassers are community members – students, seniors, men, women, and parents. They care about the future of this state and country. They represent this organization with honor, respect, and integrity. Any success we enjoy will be from their sweat, dedication, and belief in the electoral process.
