Washington, D.C. — Leaders of the NAACP, Repairers of the Breach, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and NAACP Legal Defense Fund will hold a telephone press briefing, Tuesday, November 20 at 3 PM ET, condemning President Trump’s nomination of Thomas Farr to the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Senate’s expected vote on Farr next week.
Last Thursday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filed cloture on the Farr nomination. The Senate is expected to vote to advance the nomination, and on the nomination after returning from Thanksgiving recess.
Thomas Farr has fought against civil rights for decades, compiling a long record of hostility to voting rights and workers’ rights in particular. Since his nomination in July 2017, civil rights leaders have expressed outrage that he could sit on a North Carolina court presiding over a significant Black population. The leaders will also condemn the timing of the vote, coming immediately after an election in which communities of color were subjected to rampant voter suppression.
