Over the past month, the hashtag #DontMuteDC—in response to the reported silencing of go-go music at the MetroPCS in Shaw—has become something of a movement. The proximate cause of the agita was an April 8 incident in which a cell-phone store was ordered to stop playing music outside its storefront on a fast-gentrifying corner of Shaw. Recently, the nonprofit Black & Missing Foundation compiled statistics from the FBI which noted that in 2016 alone, 242,295 individuals of color were reported missing in the United States. A stunning 36.7 percent of those missing were Black teens under the age of 18. Daunting in the quest to find the girls is the continued lack of attention the missing receive – particularly those who are black and missing. While mainstream media mostly ignores their plight, social media remains a buzz.

Fenty Maison will include ready to wear, apparel, accessories, sunglasses, and jewelry. We won’t have to wait long to see what Rihanna has in store for us, as the new collection will be presented on May 22nd in Paris.

Raylynn Thompson is set to graduate from Oklahoma’s Muskogee High School with a 4.7 GPA and as the No. 1 student her class, a feat she was told could never happen because of the color of her skin.According to Tulsa World, Thompson was approached in Walmart by a woman who had seen her leaked transcript and was told: “Black people can’t be valedictorians.”

The Crisis: Bail Black Mamas Out for Mother’s Day
In 2017, a 24-year-old Black mother of three found herself locked in a county jail. She was four months pregnant. Two months passed without word about when she’d be getting out, triggering a manic episode that led to solitary confinement. A third month came and went with no real prenatal care and no sign of release.
Her initial offense? Unable to secure childcare, she had brought her children with her to her probation check-in, which is against the rules.
