BALTIMORE(October 30, 2018)–NAACP, the nation’s foremost civil rights organization, has collaborated with award-winning actress and comedian, Wanda Sykes, to release a critical public service announcement (PSA) activating the Black community to turn out the vote on November 6.
In the PSA, Sykes makes note that elections are no joking matter. “We know that you’ll show up when it’s time for you to vote for our next President,” she said, “but our lives depend on you voting in all state and federal elections. Our lives depend on you voting this November 6 in the midterms.”
The PSA is one in a series of videos produced by NAACP which feature high-profile celebrities, influencers, and public figures urging people to vote in the midterms. Previous videos have included political commentators, faith leaders, entertainers, and youth influencers.
The strategy to use influential messengers is derived directly from NAACP’s research collaboration with GSSA, a Colorado data analytics group. As part of an aggressive research-based civic engagement strategy, NAACP is focusing in on targeted voter registration and turn out in 2018. The campaign will set the stage for the next five years by ensuring equitable outcomes for all communities.
