NAACP INVITES SAN ANTONIO AND SURROUNDING CITIES RESIDENTS TO  109TH NATIONAL CONVENTION EVENTS 

NAACP Experience Hall, Health Pavilion and Career Fair to headline free events at Convention.  

 BALTIMORE (July 6, 2018) – Families, students, professionals and residents of San Antonio and surrounding areas are invited to attend the NAACP Experience taking place Saturday, July 14th through Tuesday, July 17th. 

Housed in an exhibit hall 4B at the Henry B. González Convention Center, partners, companies, civic organizations, and vendors will display their products and services to the local community. Attendees will have the opportunity to win tickets to the 50th Annual NAACP Image Awards.   

The 109th NAACP Annual Convention will ofiicially commence on Sunday, July 15th with the Opening Public Mass Meeting where NAACP, National Board of Directors Chairman Leon W. Russell will deliver the keynote address. On Monday, July 16th, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson will take the stage and address attendees. Both keynotes are open and free to the public. 

NAACP Experience Free and Open to the Public 

Attendees can come to the Experience – shopping bag in hand – to enjoy the retail expo, where small business owners from all over the country set up booths to showcase and sell their products. Ranging from beauty, skincare, and fashion retailers to fine art and high-end jewelry shops, many of businesses onsite will be local and black-owned. 

The author’s pavilion will take place alongside the retail expo at the exhibit hall. The pavilion will host multiple panels moderated by acclaimed writers and celebrities. Readers will have the chance to buy books and get them signed by the author. 

Arts and Entertainment will be celebrated all throughout the NAACP Experience Hall. There will be a plethora of hot topic discussions taking place on the Experience main stage beginning on Saturday, July 14th. Some including: #BlackVotesMatter with Roland Martin, Black Twitter #WokeMoments with Franchesca Ramsey, Afrofuturism: Exploring our Culture with Celia Peters there is some kind of discussion for every age. As the NAACP ACT-SO program celebrates its 40th year, attendees will also have the opportunity to see ACT-SO winners perform on the Experience main stage. 

Free Health Screenings and More 

Experience-goers can take advantage of the free activities offered inside the Health Pavilion. Organizations will be onsite to provide HIV testing, blood pressure, and glucose screenings at no cost. Visitors of the pavilion can also receive complimentary massages from licensed therapists along with tips on how to improve their health and wellness. 

On Tuesday, July 17th, a free Diversity Career Fair will be held from 12p.m. to 6p.m. Local professionals and students are encouraged to bring in their resumes and apply onsite to jobs in technology, finance, accounting, HR, sales, marketing, IT and other industries. American Airlines, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Sinclair Broadcast Group are some of the companies scheduled to attend. Job seekers can register for the free event and find out more information about the exhibiting companies on the career fair website.
