The NAACP, the nation’s foremost civil rights association, named Eris T. Sims as the association’s Chief of Staff. In this role, Ms. Sims oversees the day-to-day activities of the Executive Office and supports the president and CEO in the areas of external positioning, executive reporting and strategy.
Prior to her new appointment, Sims served as the NAACP’s Senior Director of Events Planning. In this role, Eris guided the planning, management and execution for a variety of NAACP meetings and events, including the organization’s national convention.
“It is a tremendous honor to have been given this opportunity,” said Sims, “As the NAACP continues to strategically retool, I am excited to continue my service to this organization in this new role. I am fully committed to advancing the mission and legacy of an organization that has made so many historic strides in my community.”
Before her tenure at NAACP, Eris served as Executive Director of The Links, Incorporated and The Links Foundation, Incorporated. She provided strategic direction and was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s daily operations management including guiding membership services, meeting planning, marketing, programs, finance and grants and donor management.
An influential leader, Eris has over 15 years of executive leadership experience and was named a 2016 recipient of Connect Magazine’s 40 under 40. She was also the 2013 Meeting Planner of the Year by the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners.
Eris currently serves as a member of the Philadelphia CVB Customer Advisory Board and the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners Board of Directors. She has also served as member of the MGM Hotels and Resorts Diversity Advisory Council and was a founding board member of the Association of Women in Events (AWE).
Eris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Cornell University. She is a member of The Links, Incorporated, the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE) and the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).
