(October 31, 2017) – The NAACP, the nation’s original and largest social justice advocacy organization, released the following statement of its President and CEO, Derrick Johnson, regarding a meeting held today between social justice advocates and Doug Parker, the President and CEO of American Airlines, following the NAACP’s issuance last week of its travel advisory regarding American Airlines treatment of African-American customers:
“Today, we had an introductory meeting with the leadership of American Airlines to discuss the issues outlined in our travel advisory and the need for meaningful corrective action by the airline to prevent future incidents of this nature. We had a full and frank dialogue, but words are no substitute for action. The NAACP looks forward to continuing its work with American Airlines to ensure that African-American customers are not subjected to racially discriminatory treatment.”
