BALTIMORE (October 4, 2017) – In response to the ongoing Congressional probe into Russian-bought advertisement on Facebook during last year’s election season, the NAACP, the nation’s foremost civil rights organization, released the following statement:
“The utilization of Facebook for propaganda promoting disingenuous portrayals of the African American community or alleged election manipulation by foreign nations is both disturbing and reprehensible. The NAACP has consistently voiced its opposition to any threats to the integrity of the vote, whether coming from the courts, political and partisan gerrymandering or foreign powers. Our nation must raise its level of commitment to protecting citizens from all forms of voter suppression, regardless of where it emerges from, or our democracy remains in peril.”
ABOUT THE NAACP:
Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities.
