NAACP President Derrick Johnson issued the following statement after Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to advance Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court
The NAACP condemns today’s Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to advance Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. There is no question he lacks the impartiality, integrity, and temperament to serve on the Supreme Court. His testimony before the Committee yesterday made crystal clear that he is not fit to be confirmed.
We support Senator Jeff Flake’s call for an FBI investigation and are pleased that the U.S. Senate and President Trump now believe it is the right thing to do. We note that the FBI investigation must be comprehensive and leave no stone unturned in the search for the truth. We look to the Senate to fully exercise its advise and consent responsibility and reject the Kavanaugh nomination. There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity and legitimacy of the Supreme Court.
