Baltimore, MD (January 29, 2019) – The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) National Office stands in solidarity with the NAACP Georgia State Conference and Atlanta branch as they investigate the officer-involved shooting of 21-year-old Jimmy Atchinson, an unarmed father of two in Southwest Atlanta. We support the call of NAACP Georgia State Conference President, Phyllis Blake and 3rd Vice President/Criminal Justice Committee Chairman, Attorney Gerald A. Griggs call for a sit down with Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields to discuss this senseless incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Atchinson family as they try to make sense of this difficult time
