“Economic Empowerment….More Than A Pipe Dream”
BALTIMORE (November 16, 2017) – The NAACP Economic Department and its Maryland State Conference will hold a Town Hall meeting titled, “Economic Empowerment…More Than A Pipe Dream,” on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 3p.m. to 5p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland, home of the NAACP national headquarters.
A few years removed from the riots surrounding the Freddie Gray incident, Baltimore is experiencing a number of key challenges including: barriers to affordable housing, gainful employment, business development, and educational opportunities. The town hall is an opportunity for the NAACP and a panel of local leaders to assess where the City currently stands and hear from the community about the changes needed to improve and expand economic opportunity.

Debra Keller Greene (Chair, Board of Directors, Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce).
Joshua Harris (Founder and Director, Hollins Creative Placemaking)
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Marvin “Doc” Cheatham (Civil Rights Consultant)
NAACP will use the feedback from the Town Hall to develop an Economic Inclusion Plan (EIP) with the objective of improving access and opportunities in housing, entrepreneurship, employment, and education for community residents.
The event will be held at Douglas Memorial Community Church, 1325 Madison Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21217. Refreshments will be served. Attendees are encouraged to register on Eventbrite so an accurate count can be projected for planning purposes.
