On Saturday, March 30, 2019, the best and brightest in Black Hollywood will gather at the Dolby Theatre to celebrate the 50th NAACP Image Awards. Shaping up to be a night to remember, NAACP, the nation’s foremost civil rights organization, will award activists and entertainers alike for their contributions to the culture over the past year.
Where to Watch the Show
The two-hour live telecast, hosted by Anthony Anderson, will once again air on TV One at 9pm EST, and viewers can expect to see some of the biggest stars in media and entertainment –many of whom they voted for – accept their awards. In addition to the live telecast, TV One will also air special programming honoring this year’s nominees and spotlighting significant moments at 8pm EST/7C. Hosted by Urban One Founder and Chairperson Cathy Hughes, the special features in-depth one-on-one conversations with director/actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield, singer/actor John Legend, actor Stephan James, actress Loretta Devine, music industry legend Clarence Avant, soul singer Kenny Lattimore, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
Who is Attending?
Tom Joyner, radio icon, is set to receive the prestigious Vanguard Award – an honor bestowed to a person whose groundbreaking work increases the understanding and awareness of racial issues. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) will be honored with the Chairman’s Award. Kerry Washington, Amandla Stenberg, Thandie Newton and Trevor Noah are just a few of the presenters for the show.
Who is Nominated?
Nominees for the show include Ella Mai, Jade Novah, Koryn Hawthorne, Omar Wilson and Torey Lanez for Best New Artist; Janelle Monae, The Carters, MAJOR., Ella Mai and H.E.R for Outstanding Album of the Year; Sanaa Lathan, Viola Davis, Kiki Layne, Constance Wu and Amandla Stenberg for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture; and BlackKslanman, Black Panther, Crazy Rich Asians, If Beale Streat Could Talk and The Hate U Give for Outstanding Motion Picture.
