The VaxConnect pilot program, a vision of Dr Iulia Vann, Director, Guilford County Public Health Department, and led by the High Point YWCA, is in dire need of volunteers! Many private/public organizations are in partnership already and sending volunteers to their aid! Won’t you consider being a volunteer? It only takes a few hours of your day to give back! I recently spent a few hours on two days in May and will do it again this month! Our responsibilities are to canvass historically marginalized communities in High Point, door to door (not inside homes); educate people about the virus and vaccine, sign up persons for their vaccine appointments; provide transportation if necessary; and setting up appointments to receive the vaccines at home when necessary! You are paired with a staff person (Connector) who collects the necessary data at each home! The goal is to remove barriers of health care disparities and promote racial equity! For more information you may contact me at: simmons.gayle@gmail.com! Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you out there on the volunteer trail!
