Over the weekend we celebrated 50 years of the NAACP honoring black images at the 50th Image Awards in Los Angeles, California. Black excellence radiated through the theater as the stars celebrated their achievements over the past year. There was huge presence of young talent in the room eager to celebrate one another.
Our Youth and College Director, Tiffany Dena Loftin, was in attendance at the Image Awards Non-Televised Dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday along with members of our Youth Board. Helen Meyers and Morandon Henry presented on stage at the beginning of the ceremony. Loftin spoke about the importance of the youth division of the NAACP. She stated, ‘the youth and college division is not a program of the NAACP- it is the NAACP.”
The event was star studded with celebrities in attendance Marsai Martin, Miles Brown and Marcus Scribner from Blackish and Trevor Jackson from Grownish. Niles Fitch was also in attendance as well as Laya DeLeon Hayes , also known as Doc McStuffins.
On Saturday, even more young talent came to the awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Nearly the entire cast of Grownish was in attendance including Yara Shahidi, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa and Jordan Buhat. Letitia Wright was also there along with the rest of her Black Panther co-stars and took home the Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture.
